Erin Smith’s practice area is exclusively devoted to families. Family dynamics can be complicated. Sometimes legal issues arise, and a strong legal advocate is necessary. She is well-versed in family law issues ranging from divorce to elder law.
Ms. Smith’s domestic relations experience includes issues related to divorce, custody and visitation, child support, spousal support, property division, enforcement and modification of domestic orders, and adoption. She regularly represents clients at hearings and trials before juvenile and domestic relations courts as well as circuit courts, guiding clients through pre-trial motions, and negotiating and drafting settlement agreements. She is also versed in estate planning, wills, trusts, probate and trust administration, guardianships and conservatorships and business litigation. She is regularly appointed by local courts as a Guardian ad Litem for children and incapacitated adults.
She is a graduate of the University of Mary Washington and she earned her law degree from the Appalachian School of Law. She serves as general counsel for the non-profit organization Court Appointed Special Advocates (“CASA”) whose purpose is to serve children who have been victims of abuse and neglect. She is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Family Law and Estate Planning sections, and the Williamsburg Bar Association. She currently serves as an adjunct professor of law at William & Mary Law School and is the Managing Attorney at the Elder & Disability Law Clinic.
